Chapter History

Our chapter was organized in 1996 by Dr. Lee Church, who was the first president, and 24 others. We were certified on January 9, 1997 after holding our first election in late November 1996. We began as the United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association, which was eventually changed to USA Dance. The dances were first held in the Willis Building. We subsequently moved to the Pitt County Senior Center on County Home Road for the Summer and the Boys and Girls Club in North Pitt County. Then we split between the Moose Club and the Zone in Winterville for the summer and winter, respectively. Then in April, 2011, we moved to the Masonic Lodge in downtown Greenville. In October 2011 we moved to the Lakeforest Elementary School. From November 2012 through 2015 we danced at the Drew Steele Center. In 2016 we used the Greenville Country Club, the ballroom in Mendenhall at ECU and the fellowship hall at St. James Methodist Church. In 2017 we cut back on the number of dances we sponsored to allow us to hold our dances in Stanley Hall in New Bern that has an excellent dance floor. In 2018 we began offering dances at the Student Health Sciences Center at ECU.  In 2019 we moved again to the Turnage Theater (Arts of the Pamlico) in Washington NC.  For 2023 we continue to rebuild our attendance as we recover from the pandemic and we are holding social dances as opposed to strictly ballroom.
